IFA 2025
Technology That Understands. Report from Berlin!
Technology That Understands. Report from Berlin!
For a few days, Berlin once again became the heart of the tech world, and we followed it closely to feel the pulse of the future. This year's IFA 2025 trade show delivered one powerful message: the best technology is technology that understands us. This is no longer a festival of cold gadgets, but a showcase of mature, intelligent, and—most beautifully—almost invisible solutions. It's a story of a home that becomes our partner, written with a genuine passion for innovations that make life easier and more beautiful. Join us on a journey through the most important premieres!
As one of the largest exhibitors, Samsung presented a comprehensive vision where design, functionality, and artificial intelligence form a single, cohesive whole. In the kitchen, the new line of induction cooktops with built-in extractors was a showstopper—a masterpiece of minimalism that frees up space from the traditional range hood. Equally impressive was the latest generation of The Frame TVs, whose matte screens make digital works of art look incredibly realistic, transforming the living room into a private gallery.
The newest models from the Samsung Bespoke AI line allow for a nearly gapless installation, creating a perfectly smooth, monolithic surface within the cabinetry, while still surprising with their vast internal capacity. Behind the scenes, hybrid cooling technology with Peltier cells works to instantly restore the ideal temperature, but the real magic is the voice-activated door opening function for when your hands are full. Interestingly, we still have to wait for an equally intelligent, automatic door-closing feature.
All these innovations are part of a broader vision that Samsung strongly emphasized at the fair under the banner of "SmartThings Meets AI Home." The heart of this system is the new Smart Home Hub 2 control center, which supports the crucial Matter protocol. This promises an end to the chaos of multiple apps—soon, devices from different brands will be able to communicate seamlessly, creating one, truly intelligent home.
The Kitchen Revolution: Power Hidden in Discretion
The "hidden technology" trend was everywhere. An absolute hit were microwave drawers, which, installed under the countertop, become completely invisible, freeing up valuable space.
Siemens delivered a true masterclass here, presenting the world's first fully functional steam drawer at just 14 cm high. But that's not the end of the innovations Siemens is hiding in a drawer format. Right next to it, you can have a vacuum sealing drawer, elevating home cooking to the level of the best restaurants. Both devices create a cohesive, minimalist line, turning a section of the wall into a powerful culinary command center that remains almost entirely unseen.
Meanwhile, Bosch is investing heavily in the healthy cooking segment by introducing its much-anticipated air fryers. Tapping into the trend of compact and versatile built-in appliances, the company also showcased its version of the steam drawer, which—like its sister brand Siemens—can be installed both under an oven and anywhere within the cabinetry.
Innovations for the Entire Home
Siemens' innovations don't stop at compact solutions. The company is also meeting the needs of large families with new XXL built-in side-by-side refrigerators. This solution combines the massive capacity of American-style models with the elegance of a perfect European built-in fit. A strong emphasis was also placed on sustainability—the brand's new washer-dryers are among the first on the market to meet the stringent requirements of the new Energy Class A EU label.
However, it was Roborock that truly sparked awe. The company unveiled a concept of a washing machine with a fully integrated robot vacuum hidden in its base. The genius of this solution lies in its complete integration with the washing machine's plumbing. This means an end to manually refilling the clean water tank and emptying the dirty water container—the robot becomes completely maintenance-free.
